A general election

Rishi Sunak, drenched, walks away from podium thinking he’s done a great job. Screen grab from PoliticsJoe Youtube

I’ll be honest and say I don’t want a general election. I like having the hope that a future government will actually commit to the things this country needs to get better for all of society rather than the reality of a change of colour to the tie of the bloke behind the lectern telling me why we can’t possibly make the wealthy or mega corporations pay enough tax to ensure that children can have a meal every day or everyone receives the healthcare they need when they need it (rather than dying, in pain, on an endless waiting list)

Oh god, they are going to introduce assisted dying laws rather than fund healthcare properly, aren’t they?  There was an article last week about how some patients in East Anglia are opting for palliative care rather than trying to get to the cancer treatment centre [paywall]

Steve Bray blasting “things can only get better”. Well, actually, I think they can probably get much worse. No, Labour aren’t worse than the Tories but they are actually competent and if they decide they are just going to carry on with the programmes of work the Tories have set in motion stuff like the Rwanda deportations are going to actually happen.

Some of my social media faves are pushing for tactical voting to ensure that Labour’s majority is curtailed so that they have to rely on the left leaning MPs to get bills through.

What I want is Starmer to run a campaign on why we should vote Labour and not just because he’s not the other guy.  Which is funny because I live in Bury South so I won’t be voting Labour no matter what he says but it will be nice to have something positive to talk to my friends in other parts of the country. For a change.
