It’s no secret that Brexit scares me witless. I have been applying for roles in Irish academia and the health sector since the referendum was announced. with less than 6 months to go I’m now more petrified than ever. My only hope now is to make sure that I’m seen as qualified for a high skilled role (that’sdifficult to recruit for). I’m a qualified, experienced project manager and I don’t have the funds (or the time – six months people!!) to retrain so I need something closely related. Looking at areas that are difficult to recruit in Ireland, IT project management is on there and so are business analysts. My project management background so far has been in healthcare so I might struggle to convince that I’m an IT project manager but business analyst doesn’t seem too far from where I am at the minute.
Step 1
Check that what I think a business analyst does is what the internet thinks a business analyst does!
I’m under the impression that this kind of role is about data analysis and matching to business objectives and then possibly setting up projects to more closely marry the two.
The UK Civil service says that a business analyst is someone who manages projects. Whoop. I’m in!!
They list 8 essential skills for being a business analyst – agile working, business analysis (ya think??), business improveent process, digital perspective, Requirements definition and management, inovation, stakeholder relationship management and user focus.
None of this is rocket science (although as I like to say, rocket science isn’t actually complicated – it boils down to “if you push down hard enough, you go up”) and none of this is really separate from project management. Ithink all I need to demonstrate is how I can use BI tools….
